MBHS Institute recognizes that students may occasionally experience circumstances that temporarily prevent them from participating in their educational program. The Institute provides an opportunity for eligible students to request a temporary Leave of Absence (LOA) when significant circumstances require an interruption of their studies.
Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to establish a consistent process for students who need to temporarily interrupt their education while maintaining appropriate communication with MBHS Institute regarding their academic status and expected return.
Eligibility
A student may request a Leave of Absence due to circumstances such as:
Approval of a Leave of Absence is not automatic. Requests are reviewed based on the student’s circumstances, program requirements, academic status, and applicable institutional policies.
Approved Leave Periods
MBHS Institute may approve a Leave of Absence for a period of 30, 60, or 90 days, depending on the circumstances and the amount of time reasonably necessary.
The approved leave period will be established by MBHS Institute and communicated to the student.
Requesting a Leave of Absence
Students should notify MBHS Institute as soon as they become aware that they will be unable to continue participating in their program.
Whenever reasonably possible, the Leave of Absence should be requested and approved before the student stops attending classes or required educational activities.
In an emergency situation where advance notice is not possible, the student should contact MBHS Institute as soon as reasonably possible.
Academic Responsibilities
An approved Leave of Absence does not automatically eliminate academic or program requirements.
Students remain responsible for meeting applicable program requirements and may be required to complete missed coursework, assignments, examinations, clinical hours, laboratory activities, externships, or other required training upon returning.
Students should communicate with their Academic Advisor regarding their academic plan and requirements for returning to the program.
Clinical, Laboratory, and Externship Programs
Students enrolled in programs that include clinicals, laboratories, externships, internships, or other hands-on training should understand that a Leave of Absence may affect their training schedule.
Upon returning, students may be required to complete missed hours or activities, receive a revised training schedule, or meet additional program requirements before completing their program.
Financial Responsibilities
An approved Leave of Absence does not automatically cancel tuition, fees, payment arrangements, or other financial obligations.
Students should contact MBHS Institute regarding their account and should also communicate with any applicable funding agency or funding source when required.
Workforce funding, tuition assistance, grants, financial assistance, or other third-party funding may have separate requirements regarding a student’s leave or change in enrollment status.
Maintaining Communication
Students on an approved Leave of Absence are responsible for maintaining current contact information with MBHS Institute and communicating any changes that may affect their return.
Students should notify the Institute if they:
Extension of Leave
Students who need additional time beyond their approved Leave of Absence must contact MBHS Institute before the approved leave expires.
An extension may be considered based on the circumstances and applicable program and institutional requirements.
Failure to communicate with MBHS Institute or obtain an approved extension may result in a review of the student’s enrollment status.
Returning From Leave
Before returning to their program, students may be required to:
MBHS Institute will provide the student with appropriate instructions regarding resumption of their program.
Failure to Return
A student who does not return by the approved return date and does not obtain an approved extension may be subject to withdrawal or other applicable enrollment action in accordance with MBHS Institute policies.
Students who wish to return after their enrollment has been discontinued may be required to complete the Institute’s applicable reinstatement or re-entry process.
Faith-Based Student Support
As a Christian faith-based institution, MBHS Institute is committed to providing an educational environment that promotes academic excellence, personal development, integrity, responsibility, and faith.
Students experiencing significant personal circumstances are encouraged to communicate with the Institute so that appropriate educational guidance and support may be considered.
Administrative Review
MBHS Institute reserves the right to review Leave of Absence requests individually and to consider applicable academic, attendance, clinical, financial, funding, and program requirements when determining whether a leave can be approved.
This policy is intended to provide students with a clear process for requesting a temporary interruption of their education while supporting continued progress toward program completion.
